EMGS President's Letter, Dr. Stephanie Smith-Roe

Dear Members and Stakeholders,

It’s that time of year again to renew your EMGS membership or to become a member!

The EMGS is pleased to offer a 50% discount on regular memberships to non-members who are joining EMGS for the first time.  This discounted membership ($81.50) is valid through December 2024.  Student and Early Career Investigator memberships continue to be offered at the low cost of $28.00 or $38.00, respectively.  Please note that the grace period for membership renewal will end on March 31, 2024.

The Executive Board recently made the decision to charge non-members approximately 25 – 30% more for annual meeting registration, beginning in 2024 with our meeting in Palm Springs, California. This policy aligns the EMGS with the practices of other national scientific societies. If you aren’t already a member and plan to attend the 2024 annual meeting, this would be a good time to get your first-year discount and ensure that you enjoy the member benefit of a reduced registration fee!

UPCOMING WEBINARS

ToxPi: Visual Analytics for Communicating Integrated Models from Environmental Health and Toxicology
Presented by Applied Genetic Toxicology SIG

January 10, 2024 at 11:00 AM Eastern

The ToxPi (Toxicological Prioritization Index) framework provides tools for integrating, visualizing, and communicating complex data sets. ToxPi was originally developed for assessing the relative toxicity of multiple chemicals or stressors by synthesizing complex toxicological data to provide a single comprehensive view of the potential health effects. It continues to be used for profiling chemicals and has since been applied to other types of “sample” entities, including geographical data (e.g. comparative ranking of county-level Covid-19 risk and historical PFAS exposure profiling) and other profiling applications. This informal seminar will provide an introduction to the ToxPi methodology and survey recent applications in risk assessment and decision-support. It will then tour through new methodological extensions, including a bidirectional ToxPi and AI/ML-guided weight optimization, and introduce integrated software applications beyond the previously released GUI app, R package, and GIS toolkit.
