EMGS is able to offer convention space due to our contract with the hotel for a room block and lower rates. Staying at the Renaissance Palm Springs will not only be the most convenient location for you to attend the meeting, but it will also help fulfill our room block commitment to the hotel which is important to the success of the meeting.

MEET THE KEYNOTE: DR. QI CHEN

Qi Chen, M.D., Ph.D.
University of Utah School of Medicine

Join us on Sunday, September 8th at 8:00 am for Dr. Qi Chen's keynote presentation titled "Understanding the ‘sperm RNA code’ for epigenetic inheritance with emerging tools".

Dr. Chen's work spans the fields of surgery, urology, and human genetics, and his lab is currently focused on exposure-induced phenotypes, which can be “memorized” in the sperm and inherited to the offspring, a process involving epigenetic inheritance via the sperm.

Deadline May 15th

Abstract submissions are now being accepted for the 2024 Annual Meeting. Accepted abstracts submitted prior to May 15th will be published in a special issue of the Society’s journal, Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis. Late breaking abstracts will be accepted through August 15th.

Note that abstracts will be collected through Oxford Abstracts.  You will need to complete an Oxford Abstract profile on your initial submission.

2024 EMGS ELECTION CANDIDATES

The EMGS Nominating Committee has completed the selection of candidates for this year's election. This year we will be electing a Vice President-Elect and five Councilors. Each of the candidates has graciously agreed to volunteer their time and energy to serve the Society and its members. If you happen to meet any of them, please take a moment to thank them for being willing to serve our society.

The candidates will be submitting their biographical summaries for reference, which will be posted online in August. Please keep in mind that the best way to show support for these individuals is by participating in the election process when the ballots arrive in October.

EMGS Members, did you know that you have the power to nominate candidates for election to the Council and as Officers?

According to Article XI, Section 3 of our bylaws, a petition signed by ten members can nominate a Council member, while twenty members can nominate an Officer. The petition should include candidate details, signees' contact information, candidate biographies, and a signed statement from the candidate agreeing to the process and responsibilities.

Please submit your petitions to emgshq@emgs-us.org by May 15th.

EMGS REMEMBERS DR. ARTHUR GROLLMAN

It is with great sadness that EMGS reports that Dr. Arthur Grollman has passed. Dr. Grollman received the EMGS award in 2011 for his outstanding research contribution to environmental mutagenesis and was a well recognized leader in the field.

Dr. Bruce Demple kindly agreed to share his memorial tribute to Dr. Grollman with EMGS which is linked below.

Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis publishes original research articles on environmental mutagenesis in six general areas of: mechanisms of mutagenesis, genomics, DNA damage, replication, recombination, and repair, as well as public health and DNA technology.
