The Art of Advocacy: Crafting Persuasive Letters
Presented by the Women in the EMGS SIG
June 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EST
Ever wondered what makes a recommendation or nomination letter truly stand out — how to be the best advocate for yourself, your colleagues, and your students? Join us for an interactive WEMGS WOW focused on writing effective letters of recommendation and award nominations. This session will feature insights from leaders across academia, industry, and government, who will share practical strategies for crafting impactful, persuasive letters. Our panel will tackle common questions and pitfalls, and address how to recognize and avoid bias in letter writing. In addition, attendees will gain valuable guidance for navigating the award nomination process, with tools to help successfully nominate peers and celebrate the accomplishments of fellow EMGS members.

Environmental and Molecular Mutagenesis publishes original research articles on environmental mutagenesis in six general areas of: mechanisms of mutagenesis, genomics, DNA damage, replication, recombination, and repair, as well as public health and DNA technology. Subsumed under these areas are subject matters that are appropriate for inclusion in EMM.

Re-Evaluating Acceptable Intake: A Comparative Study of N-Nitrosomorpholine and N-Nitroso Reboxetine Potency
Zhang S, Cheung J, Kostal J, Voutchkova-Kostal A, Schuler M.
Abstract Excerpt
Establishing regulatory limits for Drug Substance-Related Impurities (NDSRIs) is challenging due to the limited genotoxicity and carcinogenicity data available for many of these impurities, often leading to conservative approaches. In this study, we evaluated the genotoxic potential of two structurally related nitrosamines: N-nitrosomorpholine (NMOR) and N-nitroso reboxetine...

B. Bhaskar Gollapudi
Earned my B.Sc in chemistry and M.Sc & Ph.D. in radiation/chemical mutagenesis. I have been involved in research on the safety of diverse substances and authored/co-authored more than 150 peer-reviewed papers/several book chapters. I had the opportunity to train undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral fellows which helped in the evolution of my scientific interests. My research in genetic toxicology and carcinogenesis is influenced by the many world-class toxicologists and pathologists I had the good fortune of working with.

Mutagenicity of Formaldehyde Fumes in Organotypic Human Air–Liquid-Interface Airway Cultures
Yuan Le, Yiying Wang, Robert H. Heflich
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has prioritized the adoption of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) that reduce or replace animal testing while enhancing human relevance in regulatory toxicology. In line with this initiative, we have been exploring several advanced cell culture models, particularly those derived from primary human cells, as in vitro alternatives for toxicity testing.

EMGS MEMBERSHIP REFERRAL PROGRAM
EMGS members have access to a unique code to share with colleagues who have not previously joined EMGS as regular members (previous trainee members are exempted). There is no limit on how many times the code can be shared to recruit new members.
This program will offer a 25% discount to the new member who uses this code for their first year. If this new member renews their membership the following year, the original EMGS member who recruited them and whose code was used will then receive a 25% discount on their membership for that year.
The 25% discount to the current member will occur only once per year. However, if a member gets 10 or more new members to renew, they will receive a 50% reduction off their membership!
